This week we interviewed Tammy McDowell. Tammy is a children's yoga instructor at www.namasteyogacenter.com
You are a working mom-how many kids do you have?
I have two beautiful boys, ages 7 and 4
How long have you lived here in Cary and what brought you here?
We have lived in the Cary area for 8 years. We moved here in 1999 from Southern California because of work, my husband got a job with Ft. Bragg
What do you do?
I teach kids yoga 4 times a week, and I am an Administrative Assistant for Paychex, Inc, in their Premier Human Resources Dept
Is it hard balancing work and family?
Sometimes, but I'm getting better at it as the years go by. There are moments that are incredibly difficult and then there are times where everything runs very smoothly. I am lucky to have the support of my in-laws who help us a lot!!
What is the hardest aspect of being a working mom?
Having to miss out on some of the special times with my children, field trips, class parties, etc. I go to some of these events, but can't go to all of them unfortunately.
You have been doing yoga for many years and now you are teaching Kid's yoga. What made you decided to get into teaching kid's yoga?
It is a perfect fit for me. I love children, and I love yoga! I love having the ability to share such a beautiful art with the amazing spirits within children.
How is kid's yoga beneficial for children?
Kids yoga can help children and their parents in emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual ways (independently or combined). Yoga has been shown to help with self respect, self confidence, attention, anxiety, depression, strength, and flexibility, even with medical conditions like asthma!
Why do you love being a Cary Mom?
We moved out of the area for a while and I found my self coming back to the Cary area for things that I could only find in Cary. Cary has the type of stores I like to shop at, the schools we like for our children, public facilities (like the library and parks) we enjoy going to, but most of all I like the genuine kindness I find in the families who live in Cary.
Thanks Tammy!
