Latino Community Celebrates Three Kings Day 5th Annual Parade and Gift-giving Celebration at Cary’s Bond Park
FREE EVENT- All are invited! CARY, NC -With the support of the Town of Cary, the Diamante Arts & Cultural Center (Diamante, Inc.) celebrates the 5th Annual Día de los Reyes/Three Kings Day Parade inside Fred G. Bond Metro Park on Bond Park Drive in Cary on January 9, 2010 at 2:30pm. This is a FREE family friendly event great for all ages.
For the second time, the parade will be in the streets of Cary. Many Spanish speaking countries participate in the Día de los Reyes Parade, walking in traditional dress and some with musical accompaniment, along with non-profit organizations and businesses. The Parade Marshal will be the Honorable Carlos Flores, newly appointed Consulate General of Mexico in North Carolina. The parade will finish with the arrival of the Three Magi Kings as they bring joy to children in the community. “This parade began as a way for the community to keep an almost lost Holiday tradition alive within the Latino community”, said Rafael A. Osuba, President of Diamante Inc. “Now in its 5th year, we are happy to see that this event continues to grow and attract a very diverse crowd. We are proud to say we are expecting over 200 participants in the parade”, he added. “The parade is part of our (Diamante, Inc.) Tree of Hope Campaign which presents gifts to children and groceries to their families”, said Rafael Osuba. “The Estrellas/Stars are also symbolic of Hispanic/Latino children being shining stars in the community”, Osuba added.Children receiving gifts from the “Three Kings”, is a tradition that was started in 2005 by members and volunteers of Diamante, Inc. This year over 340 children and 118 low-income families have been identified and recommended to the Estrella de la Esperanza Campaign through different agencies, such as Wake County Human Services, Wake County Public Schools, local authorities and others. In most Latin American countries, January 6th (Three Kings Day) is traditionally the day when toys and gifts are exchanged. The parade was inspired by an old legend based on the Bible, recalling the day three wise men Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar followed a bright star to Bethlehem to deliver their gifts (gold, frankincense and myrrh) to baby Jesus on the 12th day of his birth. This campaign is supported by the Town of Cary, Food Lion-Sabor Latino and La Conexion Newspaper. It’s also sponsored by La Ley FM, Toys for Tots, Univision 40, Blue Cross Blue Shield, La Michoacana Bakery, and Havana Grill Restaurant. |
